What the endocannabinoid system means
The endocannabinoid system includes cannabinoid receptors, endogenous signaling molecules, and enzymes involved in their synthesis and breakdown. It participates in several physiological processes.
Cannabis findings depend on the product, dose, route of administration, population, and outcome measured. A result about one cannabinoid or formulation should not be generalized to every cannabis product.
How strong is the evidence?
We weigh systematic reviews and well-controlled human studies above observational reports, case series, animal studies, and laboratory experiments. Each can answer useful questions, but they do not support the same degree of certainty.
Calling the system a universal balance switch is too broad. Effects vary across tissues and contexts, and mechanistic plausibility alone does not prove a treatment works.
