What THC persistence means
THC moves rapidly from blood into tissues after inhalation, while terminal elimination is much slower and varies with route, exposure pattern, body composition, sampling, and assay sensitivity. Metabolites may remain detectable well after acute effects have ended.
Cannabis findings depend on the product, dose, route of administration, population, and outcome measured. A result about one cannabinoid or formulation should not be generalized to every cannabis product.
How strong is the evidence?
We weigh systematic reviews and well-controlled human studies above observational reports, case series, animal studies, and laboratory experiments. Each can answer useful questions, but they do not support the same degree of certainty.
A laboratory detection window cannot establish when a person was impaired, and a population-average half-life cannot predict an individual's test result. Blood, urine, oral fluid, and hair tests measure different analytes over different windows.
